The Vineyard

A BEAUTIFUL DOMAINE

The vineyard which covers 11 hectares (about 30 acres) in the heart of the Luberon Natural Park was entirely redeveloped 15 years ago. The region’s distinctive climate, which typically consists of hot sunny days and cool summer nights aerated by the Mistral (the famous prevailing northern wind) results in wines of distinctive character and high repute. The vines and soils as well as the vinification are subject of careful and creative work, respectful of the work of nature. The Domaine produces 45% white wine, 45% red wine and 10% rosé. Over the years its wines have attracted prestigious awards and glowing reviews.

T H E T E R R O I R

The vineyard is planted on an east-facing hillside at 250m altitude, on calcareous – tufaceous clays that offer excellent drainage with the Mas de Tara, the estate’s beautiful house, standing right in the middle of the vines.

The vineyard, which covers 11 hectares (about 30 acres), comprises the following varieties :
Reds: Syrah 2.5 ha, Red Grenache 1 ha, Carignan 1 ha
Whites: Roussanne 2.4 ha, White Grenache 2.35 ha, Clairette 0.9 ha
New plantations (mostly Syrah): 0.85 ha
The vines are planted 4,000 to the hectare, trained on wires and the paths between the rows are grassed, thus naturally limiting the yield which never exceeds 40 hl per hectare.

The Harvest

The crop is picked by hand, parcel by parcel and variety by variety. Harvesting may take one month, from 15 September to 15th October, depending on the year, the grape variety and the location of the vines. Syrah grapes ripen early and are picked first, while the Carignan crop needs longer, maturing only in late September - October.

The grapes are collected in small 10 kg buckets to prevent any crushing and preserve all their aromatic qualities.
