Innocent Bystander Pink Moscato (37.5ml)
An exotic mix of watermelon, musk and rose petals on the nose with touches of red apples. On the palate hints of sherbet and strawberry flavours with a slight spritz and a cleansing acid zing and a refreshing finish. only 5.5% alcohol.
Set up in 2004 by Phil Sexton, Innocent Bystander is a Yarra Valley based estate producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay alongside several other emerging varietals and blends. Located in Healesville, the winery is an exercise in function over form, much like the strongly expressed views of its owners and winemaking team:
“Make great wine for drinking and enjoying; not crowing over”. The fruit for the Innocent Bystander wines is sourced from vineyards in Yarra Valley as well as selected vineyards throughout Victoria.
The Gordo Muscat (Muscat of Alexandria) was selected from the Boulton and Duffy vineyards with the Black Muscat (Muscat Hamberg) sourced from the Burge and Duffy vineyards.
Fruit was harvested at night, chilled and crushed and then given 6 hours skin contact (for that nipple pink colour). Fruit was then pressed to stainless steel tanks and filtered bright before inoculation. Juice was fermented long and cold until full natural carbonation was achieved and the optimum balance between sugar and alcohol was reached. Cold filtered and cold bottled at 0° C.

Moscato, Innocent Bystander, Victoria 2009, 5.5%, €6.95 half bottle. A lightly fizzy wine that is tailor-made for summer; this version uses the Gordo and Black Muscat grape varieties. The Innocent Bystander rosé is very different to Italian Moscato. Fresh and rich, bursting with vibrant red fruits, and a lovely off-dry finish. Drink well-chilled with a friend on the patio.
