La Giustiniana Gavi 2008
Gavi
This 100% Cortese wine is light lemon/gold in colour, with fresh aromas of white peaches and nectarines. More concentration and weight on the palate than the 2007 with similar lemony citrus notes. Rich with good levels of acidity and a long mineral finish.
PRODUCER
Donato Lanati, one of Italy’s best young consultants, began working with the owner of La Giustiniana, Enrico Tomalino, at the beginning of 1998. His indelible stamp of quality has become increasingly evident in recent years. The changes wrought in the winery seven years ago are now being matched with the improvements being made in the vineyard, where better grapes are giving purer, richer and better balanced wines.
The estate covers 30 hectares in the heart of the commune of Rovereto in Gavi. Two single-vineyard wines are produced, both of which are unoaked so the character of the vineyards shines through.
VINEYARDS
Soils here are grey marl with loose sandy topsoil, resulting in an open style of wine. The vines are Guyot trained and are planted at a density of 4000 vines/ha.
VINIFICATION
The grapes are gently pressed, then cool fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Unoaked, the wine is bottled in the spring following the harvest.
