Vino Nobile Riserva Fattoria del Carro 2000
Montepuliciano
Fattoria del Cerro has fully become of age. It was originally owned by the Baiocchi family, since 1922, and was bought by Saiagricola in 1978 when Montepulciano and its wines were going through a critical period, in both image and sales. The Guaranteed and Controlled Denomination of Origin (D.O.C.G.) had not yet been created and it happened only during the vintage of 1980 and those wines were then placed on the market only in January of 1983. It was a pioneer-like period and to move out of a definitely difficult period there was a lot of work to do. Fattoria del Cerro was one of the first protagonists of the renaissance of Vino Nobile. It began with a philosophy based on researching extreme quality with renewed vineyards or ones implanted with modern techniques. Today when speaking about Vino Nobile and Rosso di Montepulciano, Fattoria del Cerro is among the first names that come to mind and the wines produced in the splendid modern cellars are now part of the Gotha of local winemaking production. This objective was reached with determination and far sighted capacity. Above all the awareness of living and operating in one of the most gifted areas of Tuscany for the cultivation of vines and the production of great red wines from Prugnolo Gentile grapes, a vine that strongly characterises the territory of Montepulciano, allowing Vino Nobile to remain "the king of wines", as Francesco Redi wrote in his poem "Bacchus in Tuscany" almost three centuries ago.
