Zesty, rich and pure bubbles with a fresh, inviting nose and delicious notes of poached pear, honeyed brioche and caramelized grapefruit. Exceptionally well-crafted, a lovely drink!

Pairs well with most savoury tapas, especially seafood-based plates. Top aperitif too.

The Vineyard

Belle Époque is made using the "Champagne method" (where the bubble-creating second fermentation occurs in bottle) from the classic Cava triumvirate: Macabeo/Viura (50%), Xarel-lo (30%) and Parellada. The vines, planted in the 1990s and scattered between 200m and 500m above sea level, are located a little south of Barcelona, overlooking the Mediterranean. Ageing is one year on lees (3 months longer than the legal minimum); and only the best 40% of the crop makes it into the wine, the rest being sold off to neighbouring producers.

Cava is Spain's iconic sparkling wine, and the country's answer to Champagne. In fact, for many decades, Cava was called Champaña - before the (real) Champagne region's attack-lawyers came knocking and, ultimately, forced a name-change to Cava (1970). Cava is an unusual wine "region" in that, while 90% of Cava is made in Catalonia, the remainder comes from other far-flung places - Aragon, Navarra, Rioja, Valencia and Extremadura.
