Sales Information
Hedonistic style that incorporates creamy coffee, luscious chocolate and dried fruits. Smooth and giving from the get go, with a long, ravishing finish. An absolutely stunning marriage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah that's mellowed for 14 months in a combination of American and French oak.
The Vineyard
Sommos is among Spain's most modern bodegas, from its futuristic main building, which features interlaced cubes, to its 27-metre high winery, which was designed to use just gravity to move wine around, thereby avoiding the damage that traditional pumps cause - Sommos even uses the intelligent Cartesian porta ovis robot ("Explorer Robot") to carry out basic tasks such as filling/emptying barrels, stacking pallets etc! Grapes are harvested during the cool of the night to maximise the wines' fruitiness.
The northern Spanish region of Somontano ("under the mountain") nestles in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Unlike much of the country's interior, it is lush and green due to an abundance of rivers and creeks. Diverse in terms of grapes, eight red and seven white varieties are allowed in Somontano - including native Moristel, Parraleta and Macabeo/Viura (known here as Alcañón), plus international grapes Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay.
