Dark cherry, plum and graphite aromas with supple tannins and bright acidity. The addition of a small amount of alicante bouschet gives the mencía a deeper colour and more plush texture.
In 2007, after stints in his native Bordeaux and in Spain, Grégory Pérez purchased 5 hectares in Bierzo and started Mengoba. His commitment is to produce terroir-driven, non-interventionist wines. A judicious use of oak vessels, for both fermentation and ageing, natural yeasts, almost no filtration or clarification, and a minimal amount of sulphur, results in wines that taste genuine: pure, deep and complex.
