Tasting Notes

From Chile’s Maipo Valley, renowned for producing fine red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carménère. Grapes are cold-soaked and cool fermented in stainless steel prior to ageing in French oak barrels for 12 months.

Dark carmine in color, this Gran Reserve Carménère reveals intense aromas of hedgerow fruit, black pepper and prune marmalade. The palate is full and rich, concentrated dark fruits together with toasted oak, smoke and vanilla, with a touch of minerality framed by chocolate powder tannins and well balanced acidity, and a long, complex finish.

Producer: Antawara

Antawara is a young winery, only founded in 2006 by talented winemaker Jaime Muñoz. Jaime had worked as a winemaker for large wineries in both Chile and France before deciding the time was right to set up his own venture. In 2019, the company acquired a new winery in the foothills of the Andes, 100km south of Santiago, and entered the top 20 of Chilean exporters.

Vineyards are centred around the Maipo Valley, an historic wine region going back 500 years from the original colonial plantations, and renowned for producing fine red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carménère. Hot summer days are followed by cold nights, old vineyards on the stony slopes of the sheltered foothills providing the perfect growing conditions.
