Tasting Notes

Daumas Gassac whites have the particularity of having “two very distinct lives” depending on the age of the bottles.

During the first years, this clever blend gave birth to a grand cru dazzling with purity, freshness and wonderful fruity flavors, supported by a creamy texture. A different wine appears between the 3rd and 6th year. The fruity flavor and freshness disappear. New and very strange flavors appear which evolve in the family of flavors such as "Jerez" or old "Sauternes" or even "oxidative" flavors of great finesse. You can love this stadium, you can not love it. It's up to you to be attentive and drink your whites in the first two years if you are not looking for these paradoxical flavors.

Grape varieties

this wine comes from a very complex blend which gives it its typicality 48% Viognier, 13% Chardonnay, 13% Manseng, 9% Chenin and 17% from a collection of rare and old grape varieties (petit Courbu du Béarn, Petite Arvine from Valais, Rhole from Provence, Marsanne from Rhône and around ten other grape varieties).

Vineyard

When Aimé Guibert bought a property high in the Gassac Valley, he had no idea what riches lay beneath the scrub. It was his friend Bordeaux geography professor Henri Enjalbert who made the discovery. 40 hectares of prime viticultural land formed over thousands of years by slowly shifting glaciers. The soil is so poor and well drained, vine roots are forced to find nourishment and moisture at great depth, inhibiting growth and promoting unique aromas and flavours in the grapes. Most of this wine is Cabernet, while up to 24 other varieties complete the blend. Vinification is according to Professor Emile Peynaud, so elegant and restrained, akin to fine Bordeaux, although the herbal, mineral complexity is unique.
